What to do if you cut yourself

The home is the “family nest” but sometimes conceals hazards that may cause accidents and injury. It is therefore important to be familiar with the basic first aid rules.

How domestic cuts and wounds should be treated depends on their gravity and their cause.

The cut or wound will heal more rapidly if prompt action is taken.

- Wash your hands thoroughly before treating the wound and wear gloves to avoid the risk of infection

- Wash the wound under running cold water

- Plug with sterile gauze

- Disinfect the wound with oxygenized water

- Dry the skin around the cut carefully using sterile gauze

- Cover the wound with a plaster

If it is a deep cut with significant blood loss, proceed as follows:

- Without removing the sterile gauze applied to the wound previously, lay and fix the sterile gauze swabs in position by pressing on them gently

- Apply ice to it, if necessary

- Go to the First Aid department immediately

Care and promptness are virtues
